Vikingfest 2011

Today was the Ripley High School Vikingfest 2011.
What a beautiful day for sitting outside listening to various bands from around the area perform.

To begin the days performances, Maci was asked to sing the National Anthem.  She went to the press box to sing through the sound system and Jim and I went to video and watch.  (It was hard not to cry.  This is the last time that she will be singing from the Ripley High School press box.  Although, Jim did say that now it is just on to a bigger venue.....singing from the Marshall University press box....singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl.)

There were thirteen high school bands competing.  They were Calhoun County, Hundred, Lincoln County, Ravenswood, Wirt County, Nitro, Williamstown, Tyler Consolidated, Brooke, Roane County, Nicholas County, Richwood, and George Washington.
After all the bands had performed, the Pride of Jackson County, the Ripley High School Fighting Viking Marching Band performed Elvis Lives.
Led on to the field by Field Commanders, Maci Oiler and Katie Moore.

Are you ready Ripley High School?

 One, two, three, four.....

 What a GREAT job!

Ready to give out some awards.

It was bittersweet to watch the last RHS Vikingfest that will include an Oiler girl.
But, it was a beautiful day, everyone had fun, and the RHS band students did a fantastic job!
Well done Mrs. Poole and Mrs. Hess!
